Mmmm........mmmm............delicious. Catered from Maggiano's Little Italy, this quarter's Student Faculty Reception (SFR) was a huge success. Slivkans and Fellows alike feasted on SIX different types of pasta and three different kinds of chicken. And who could forget the dessert? Yum ~ Tiramisu, Spumoni and French Vanilla ice cream! No one left hungry, that's for sure. The event, of course, was not just about the food. The most Fellows ever joined us for dinner, and the Slivkans had a great time conversing with them. It was the perfect way to end the quarter ~ good food and good company. Have a great summer! |

(Written by an AC member) The nanotechnology fireside given by Professor Odom last week gave students in Slivka a unique opportunity to hear from one of the pioneering scientists in the field of nanotechnology. Professor Odom related several of her research articles that had been published in Nature and elaborated on them for us. She provided us with a solid understanding of just what nanotechnology means and stimulated our interest in the subject with anecdotes from her own studies. |

Snape...Snape...Severus...Snape...Harry Potter...Harry Potter...Dumbledore! Sorry, it's just that this trip made me feel as though I were still a kid - it was that awesome. Seeing authentic movie props like the Monster Book of Monsters, visiting Hagrid's hut, meeting Buckbeak and the Acromantula, listening to the Fat Lady trying to break the champagne glass, all of that, combined with the exhibit people speaking with a British accent, made me feel like I was part of the story. And at the end, there was the gift shop, where one could buy overpriced chocolate frogs (I guess galleons are doing better than dollars in this economy). If you haven't already gone, you should definitely check out this exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry! |
