What would be nicer than waking up and eating delicious food in the Rec Lounge?  No more walking those two extra minutes to Sargent, only to eat something because you're hungry, not because it tastes yummy.

Now, you can.

On Saturday, April 25th, Slivka had its first brunch with the Fellows.  Freshly made French toast, fruit salad, scrambled eggs, croissants and deli meats, gourmet cheese, yogurt parfaits...just writing this makes me hungry.  Approximately 50 Slivkans woke up early enough to partake of this buffet-style spread and talk with the Fellows!  Bob Michaelson, Eberhard, and Robert Linsenmeier graciously took time out of their weekends to come to Slivka and eat with us.

Afterward, some students and Fellows embarked on a great trip to the Brookfield Zoo!

Friday, we had the first BBQ since the fall. Slivkans got together to feast on hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwursts, and (a few) veggie burgers. All told, the grill was running for three hours. While grilling, some enjoyed games of frisbee and soccer. A few let loose their inner child with a game of duck-duck-goose and one just decided to nap in the sunshine.

15 men (and women). 15 machines. A contest of mental acuity, strength, and the quickness of your fingers. Starcraft: Brood War. This day, a new man is crowned king of the Craft. After an intense bracket, freshman Michael Wurtz pwned some n00bs and won the tournament with the help of the Zerg Swarm.

Earlier today, 15 Slivkans and our fellow Eberhard went to the Brookfield Zoo. We saw elephants and rhinos, lions and leopards, wombats and just bats, sea lions and dolphins, monkeys and many more animals. The dolphins were particularly exciting: one child ran his finger across the teeth of his hair pick that he held against the reservoir window and two dolphins swam up to the window and began flipping next to it and rubbing against it, as if wanting to be petted! We also saw polar bears "hovering," possibly in anticipation of mating season. And to add the icing on the cake, we left the zoo right before the thunderstorm arrived.

All in all it was a fun trip!

Where Do We Stand on Torture?

Torture is morally wrong, isn't it? It seems like such a trivial question - of course, it's wrong! Just think of Guantanamo Bay, just think of the innocent people who were waterboarded; think of some wrongdoers, who didn't break under torture! But, if the lives of millions of people depended on the information the potential wrongdoer concealed - could it be worth it?
