As we are already in February, four months (perhaps even more for upperclassmen) of dining hall food is just too much. Thanks to our gracious hosts and Slivka Fellows, the Krulees, five Slivkans were able to take a break from Sargent and have a delicious home-cooked meal. Tender roast beef, savory chicken, crisp tossed salad, colorful fruit salad, inside-out lasagna...and who could forget the dessert? Chocolate cookies with whipped cream...mmm. The meal was fantastic, and the conversations were light-hearted. It was a great way to end a long, tiring weekend and begin a stressful week. |

On the night of January 23, Slivkans joined with residents of CCI to a winter formal at Crystal Gardens at Navy Pier. A great meal meal was enjoyed and everyone looked great in their formal wear. There was dancing, including a special dance by Slivka's very own Master, Art! It was an evening to remember. |

On a mountain in Norway, a dark evil lurks... not yet awakened, it lies hidden beneath the snow. But what happens when it wakes?
Last Friday, Slivkans joined the IT Committee in viewing this Norwegian comedy-horror film in massive size in Tech LR3. Featuring six different sets of intestines and a plethora of screaming, this movie was truly a treat for both the eyes and the ears. |

In the middle of a large and otherwise empty lobby, corpses curled up on the floor, covered in a white blanket catch the attention of an unsuspecting passer-by. Coming closer, as if struck by lightning: they're made of marble! ... innocent, faceless victims of modern times in Italy...
A large and really, REALLY repulsive woman, with features of a gypsy, hairy armpits, wearing over her immense hips a skirt so thin that it may as well not have been worn, standing indecently like a drunk sailor on a rowboat that was being thrown about on the waves as if it, also, were drunk, a man puking into the blue sea (held by another man, so as not to fall overboard) - from seasickness, or from having finally realized what mistake he was making: Cleopatra on a boat with Mark Anthony.
A room so dark, you begin to feel uncomfortable. Taught strings divide a room without any visible end into blocks. Hand involuntarily reaches forward to feel the space ahead; the space begins to distort, taught strings cut the room into different blocks; someone else walks cautiously nearby -- completely disoriented, you walk back out into the light of day.

Prof. Savage from the English department and Prof. Alongi from the Math department came to Slivka to hold a fireside titled Atheism, Agnosticism and All That. They first described how they became agnostics/atheists, in the meantime explaining what these terms mean, and what some misconceptions/myths about them are. Then, they opened the floor to questions, which there were many, since the topic was both interesting and somewhat controversial, and the fireside had a high attendance (in addition to Slivkans, there were students from CRC, Green House, etc.). |
